Town of Charlton

The Town of Charlton was erected from the Town of Ballston, Saratoga County, New York, on March 17, 1792.  Previously it had been called "New Freehold", by its settlers, who were mostly emigrants from Freehold, New Jersey. Charlton is composed of the areas of Harmony Corners, West Charlton, Blue Corners, Little Troy, and the Hamlet of Charlton which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Charlton may be considered small in size but is vast in agricultural resources and has been fortunate to retain its rural beauty. Today, approximately 4,000 people live in Charlton.

Explore our pristine town of approximately 32 square miles with its many magnificent views. Within our town you will find a vintage tavern and restaurant, a quaint general store, a town park complete with a gazebo and Veteran's Recognition Board, working dairy farms, and historic churches. Take the time to visit the Old Schoolhouse and Historical Society Museum on Maple Avenue. Join us for our Memorial Day Ceremony, our Founders Day Weekend on the first weekend in June. Participate in the annual tree lighting and carol sing at our town park. Don't forget to visit this website on a regular basis for the latest information on activities, and what events our local organizations are hosting.

Charlton's neighborly attitude makes it an attractive place to locate or visit. We are ideally located just minutes from many cultural, educational and recreational venues, Albany, the Capital City, and the renowned Saratoga Springs area.

Whether you are looking to move to Charlton or just passing through we hope you will enjoy our town, its history and our people. We invite you to be a part of us where the quality of life matters.
