Power Outage

Present: Supervisor Grattidge, Councilman Gardner,
Councilman Salisbury, Councilman Verola, West Charlton Fire Chief Pete Vonie,
and Assist. Chief Craig Jones, Charlton Fire Chief Dean DeCapria, Harmony
Corners Fire Chief Thomas Palmateer, Superintendent of Highways Ron Gavin, and
Mike Emerich.
Supervisor Grattidge called
the meeting to order at 10:00am.
At the peak of outage
National Grid reported 45,000 homes down.
The main transmission lines were down and 1,000 crews were called out.
At 8:00a.m., the power
started to come back on.
Approximately 60-70 percent
of Charlton’s residents regained power.
The western end of Charlton still remains with out power. Charlton Fire Chief Dean DeCapria reported
Lakehill road continues with out power until approximately Sunday to reset
poles. Peaceable Street was closed due
to lines down although residents do have power. Mr. DeCapria has contacted National Grid regarding the situation.
Imperial Lane, Kolmar Drive,
Degraff Road and parts of Beechwood Drive are without power.
West Charlton Assist., Fire
Chief Craig Jones reported a tree down on Route 147 caused the road closed,
would like the road prioritized due to redirection of heavy traffic. It was
about 1:00am until National Grid arrived.
A thank you was made to the
Highway Department for generating the traffic light at Route 147 and Route 67.
The Charlton Fire District
was used for a shelter location, at this time a few residents were coming
in.
Charlton Fire Chief Dean
DeCapria reported they were checking on residents and at the Charlton Girls
School through the night. They are
continuing pumping water out of basements.
West Charlton Assist., Fire
Chief Craig Jones reported the West Charlton Fire House is using back up
generator and received information that National Grid is working on the
situation at Route 147. The power
should be back on at he lower end of Route 147. Division Street has power.
East of Route 67 at about Harmony Corners has power. Crooked Street remains without power.
Supervisor Grattidge
reported that public water was on a bypass system starting at midnight.
Charlton Fire Chief Dean
DeCarpria asked for an updated list of the seniors in town. Assessor Vicky Hayner will provide a list
from the star program. One masters list with all seniors then a break down of
the fire districts. Suggested was to
contact Midge Dube the head of the Charlton Seniors to develop another list.
For the next newsletter
Charlton Fire Chief DeCapria would like to announce if anyone is on any special
ventilating equipment to contact the Fire House so they can respond if there is
a power outage.
A tree was reported down on
a garbage truck on Cook Road.
The fire district is the
command center right now. Supervisor
Grattidge stated this is something we can work towards in getting a central
location. We need to get key people involved
and update the plan annually.
The fire districts use a County
Mutual Aid Plan as their emergency plan.
Supervisor Grattidge
adjourned the meeting at 10:45am.
