At the peak of outage National Grid reported 45,000 homes down.  The main transmission lines were down and 1,000 crews were called out.

At 8:00a.m., the power started to come back on.

Approximately 60-70 percent of Charlton’s residents regained power.   The western end of Charlton still remains with out power.  Charlton Fire Chief Dean DeCapria reported Lakehill road continues with out power until approximately Sunday to reset poles.  Peaceable Street was closed due to lines down although residents do have power.  Mr. DeCapria has contacted National Grid regarding the situation.

Imperial Lane, Kolmar Drive, Degraff Road and parts of Beechwood Drive are without power.

West Charlton Assist., Fire Chief Craig Jones reported a tree down on Route 147 caused the road closed, would like the road prioritized due to redirection of heavy traffic. It was about 1:00am until National Grid arrived.

A thank you was made to the Highway Department for generating the traffic light at Route 147 and Route 67.

The Charlton Fire District was used for a shelter location, at this time a few residents were coming in.

Charlton Fire Chief Dean DeCapria reported they were checking on residents and at the Charlton Girls School through the night.   They are continuing pumping water out of basements.

West Charlton Assist., Fire Chief Craig Jones reported the West Charlton Fire House is using back up generator and received information that National Grid is working on the situation at Route 147.  The power should be back on at he lower end of Route 147.  Division Street has power.  East of Route 67 at about Harmony Corners has power.  Crooked Street remains without power.

Supervisor Grattidge reported that public water was on a bypass system starting at midnight.

Charlton Fire Chief Dean DeCarpria asked for an updated list of the seniors in town.  Assessor Vicky Hayner will provide a list from the star program. One masters list with all seniors then a break down of the fire districts.  Suggested was to contact Midge Dube the head of the Charlton Seniors to develop another list.

For the next newsletter Charlton Fire Chief DeCapria would like to announce if anyone is on any special ventilating equipment to contact the Fire House so they can respond if there is a power outage.

A tree was reported down on a garbage truck on Cook Road.

The fire district is the command center right now.  Supervisor Grattidge stated this is something we can work towards in getting a central location.  We need to get key people involved and update the plan annually.

The fire districts use a County Mutual Aid Plan as their emergency plan.

Supervisor Grattidge adjourned the meeting at 10:45am.

Respectfully Submitted,
