Minutes of Technology
Advisory Board Meeting of April 17, 2007
Present: J Tasse, Chairman, G. Eggleston, J.
Kelley, P. St. John, M. Schorr, Al Smith-guest
Absent: B. Gardner-Town Board liaison
The meeting was called to order at 7:06 pm.
1. The minutes of the 1-16-07 and 2-20-07 meetings
were approved.
2. J. Kelley reported on his investigation about
obtaining a license for the McAfee security package. He then obtained information,
on his computer at the meeting , as follows: The commercial price for the McAfee
Total Protection package for 10 computers is $612, and for 15 units the price
is actually lower at $550. The government price may be lower. The package has a
central management system to get the security status of each computer on the
system. Purchase would be made by the Town Clerk and installation would be by
Kelley for the first few machines and if he found it to be not too complex
Heather could do the rest of the machines. If it is complex he would do all the
machines.
A motion was made and passed to recommend to the Town Board the purchase
of the McAfee Total Protection package for 15 computers at a price not to
exceed $550. Heather should make the purchase and installation will be
coordinated by J. Kelley and A. Smith.
3.
System
Administrator – It was moved and approved that the TAB should recommend the
hiring of Al Smith as the System Administrator on a contract consultant basis. Discussion
indicated that the general consensus was the pay should be at an hourly rate
with a monthly minimum. The perception is that there will be more hours needed
at the beginning when the system is first started up and then fewer hours per
month. While there will be regular repeated activities on a weekly or monthly
basis the work will generally be intermittent. J. Tasse will get the names of
some local consultants and then J. Kelley will find out what their hourly
consulting rates are for this type of job. That information will be passed on
to the Town Board for their use in determining a rate for the Charlton System
Administrator. The duties and responsibilities of the system Administrator were
discussed. Tasse will revise the write-up of the duties and responsibilities that
had been developed and discussed at a previous meeting.
4.
Discussion with
Al Smith – He is interested in the System Administrators job and would consider
it if presented with the opportunity by the Town Board. He has the experience
and knowledge to handle the job, and as a resident of Charlton he is interested
in seeing that the job is done right. He discussed the wiring for the server in
the new town hall and mentioned that Tony Ward, the “owner’s rep” on the new
town hall construction has not returned his calls to get information on wiring.
He will try to attend the next periodic meeting about the construction in order
to talk to Ward.
ACTION: Tasse will get the names of
local consultants who could perform the job of System Admin.
ACTION: Kelley will try to get hourly rate
information from the local consultants
ACTION:
Al Smith will talk to Tony Ward, the owner’s rep on the Town Hall construction
The meeting was adjourned at 8:36 pm.
