DRAFT Minutes of Technology Advisory Board Meeting of June 20, 2006

 

Present: J Tasse, Chairman, G. Eggleston, M. Schorr, P. St. John, B. Gardner-Town Board liaison

Absent: J. Kelley

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm.

 

1.       The minutes of the 5-16-06 meeting were approved with 2 typo corrections.

      NOTE: The electronic version of J Kelly’s strategy for a file server in the new Town hall was to be       attached to the April minutes, but was not received from him.

 

2.       Highway Dept. computer – the time clock is connected to the computer. It was decided to hold off sending the info to the book keeper via the internet until security is upgraded (In the new Town Hall).  Until then data will be hand carried to Kathy in a disk copy. For security, data transmitted should be minimized whether by disk or internet. Bruce will check Gavin on the data required to be on the disk.

 

3.       Computer for constables –Gardner talked to Tom Parks. Parks does not want a laptop. He wants a desktop unit secured in the office. If it’s not in the budget he is willing to wait, but the TAB supports getting a Dell unit.  

 

4.  Town Hall Computer Survey – the Draft form rev date was wrong, but there were no other comments/       changes required. It will be sent to Heather to distribute to the departments for return by 7/17. (Form       attached)

 

5.   The repair bill for the Town Clerk’s computer was discussed. General consensus – reasonable.

 

6.   Need for computer repair service contract – George suggested that we find out about the County and       school district contracts and see if Charlton could coat tail on one of those.  .

 

7.   Town Hall Spec comments- spec is already out for bid. Tasse hasn’t finished his review Anything       anyone on TAB would like to see in it, tell Bruce.

 

8.  Tasse sent copy of Nan’s GIS disk to Ray Black (Planning Board). ACTION – Tasse will make copies       for the TAB members

 

9.   Computer security was discussed. Some members of the TAB attended a conference on computer       security. All considered it VERY worthwhile. Copies of some talks, other info from conference is       available. One conclusion from the conference is that the Town must put in place a policy on computer       security, computer usage, etc.

 

ACTION – The TAB will research getting a server in 2007.
