DRAFT Minutes of Technology Advisory Board Meeting of April
18, 2006
Present: J Tasse, Chairman, G.
Eggleston, J. Kelley, M. Schorr, P. St. John, B. Gardner-Town Board liaison
The meeting was called to order at
7:03 pm.
1.
The minutes of the 3-21-06 meeting were approved
with no changes.
2. The Town Hall bid package went out today
(4-18).TAB members can still look at it and comment by 5-16 (next meeting).
3. The strategy for the file server (Kelley’s write-up) in the new
Town Hall was discussed. He recommends an 8 port server –more than 8 ports and
the cost goes up fast. Networking options were discussed. Tasse recommended
that the ’07 Town budget should contain money for a firewall router (8 port is
just over $100) and server, but the server could wait a year. The cost of a
70-80 gig, 10,000 rpm file server system should be investigated. Hp is the most
reliable according to Kelley. The server should be located in the Town Hall
basement where it is a cooler environment. ACTION-Kelley’s
write-up is to be attached to the minutes, but I have not received it yet.
4. Survey-Tasse made changes to the survey form based on feedback he
received. Heather will distribute it to the departments and put return info on
the forms. ACTION-The revised survey will be attached to the
minutes, but I have not yet received it.
5. Tasse has Nan’s GIS disk. She said that the county maps are usually
a year behind. ACTION-Kelley will check on where Nan gets her
maps.
6. Computer for constables –Gardner talked to Tom Parks about how it
will be used. It is needed for reports, tickets are issued by computer, to
check a persons record. Paul will check the County Sheriff to see if they have
money from the “Stop DWI Program” or other sources. The state police have
software that does everything that our police need. The TAB recommends that the
software should be put in the budget and purchased. ACTION–Gardner
will verify that it is in the budget. The TAB also recommends that the laptop
with docking station that the justices turned in, should be used. Councilman
Lippiello may be using it to try to load software for justice Ketchum. It has
Windows 98. ACTION-Gardner will check on its availability and if
it’s not available for the constables, he will check that money is in the
budget for a laptop computer for the constables. Re-the justice’s computer-try
to buy office through the state contract.
7. Highway
Dept. –Gavin wants to hook up the time clock to the computer. Heather got it to
work OK on her computer. The price for a Highway Dept. PC, if purchased from
the state contract, appears to be too high, but it depends on what features are
on the PC. The price for the justice’s PC, if purchased from the state
contract, looks OK. St. John discussed the software available for the Highway
Dept. ACTION –he will get a demo disk from Williamson. The
Williamson software will be all set up as opposed to the County software that
must be set up.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:23
pm.
