Chauncey & Samuel Belding
1767-1817 . . . 1772-1865

"Samuel Belding III (son of Samuel II and Mary Mitchell Belding), was born November 10, 1767. In 1790 he joined Chauncey Belding (his brother) in the Town of Charlton both becoming prominent men of the town. In 1794 they engaged in mercantile life in company succeeding Davis and Bostwick. Chauncey Belding was a member of the State Assembly 1807-08 and Samuel 1823. Samuel Belding held office of town clerk from 1802 continuously until 1838, except the years 1813 to 1818 when he was Supervisor. He then was succeeded by Hiram Belding. The Belding store was located in Charlton Village at the corners of Main Street and Jockey Street. The site of the store now houses a small building which was used to manufacture the 'Henry Springer Pump'."

Samuel married (1) Lucy Olive. Lucy was born about 1775. She died on 18 Mar 1802. She was buried in Jeremiah Smith Cemetery, Charlton, NY.

They had the following children:

        Melancton married Hester Maria CONDE daughter of Albert CONDE and Hester TOLL on 14 Jan 1835 in Charlton,Saratoga,NY. Hester was born on 13 May 1813. She died on 28 Mar 1889 in Charlton,Saratoga,NY. She was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Charlton, NY.
  10 M v Hiram BELDING was born in 1816. He died in 1904. He was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Charlton, NY.
        Hiram married Elizabeth BROWN daughter of William BROWN and Elizabeth on 11 Jan 1843 in Charlton,Saratoga,NY. Elizabeth was born on 28 Feb 1823 in Charlton,Saratoga,NY. She was christened in Charlton Freehold Church, Saratoga County, NY. She died in 1904. She was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Charlton, NY.
