Vision Statement and Goals
What follows are drafts of a Vision Statement and Goals that the Comprehensive
Planning Steering Committee have crafted from your inputs. Through an extensive
planning process, hundreds of citizens expressed their views about Charlton and
identified its perceived strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
Identification of these community values and aspirations provide a basis for development
of a shared vision. The public input process resulted in the identification of broad
areas of consensus concerning the future direction for our town. The following vision
statement defines these expectations, offers a direction for the future and provides a
benchmark that we can use to measure our success.
Goals that follow are broad statements of the ultimate result of whatever you have
undertaken. They should reflect the ideal future conditions desired by the town.
Goals offer more specific direction and should be consistent with the stated vision.
The Goals will be further refined with more specific objectives and strategies.
Objectives are measurable, time-specific results that the town expects to accomplish.
Townspeople will be invited to comment on this Vision and the Goals at a
November 1, 2004 Public Presentation. Details on the meeting will soon be published
in a forthcoming press release.
